"… to be used for nature study and as a preserve for birds and other wildlife."- Carmen Hambleton Warner
This has been an unusual year as far. The May wildflowers all bloomed in April. And this year the native rhododendrons are following the trend. The first blossoms are now in bloom, but don’t panic these the just the beginning. In 45 years of observing the rhododendrons, this is the earliest blooms I can recall! Over the next two weeks, more and more flowers will be blooming. Note: Rhododendron Cove State Nature Preserve is closed indefinitely, but you can still see the same native rhododendron here at Wahkeena Nature Preserve. Plus, a nature center and restrooms will make your visit more enjoyable.
